Based on: In 1937, the Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railways) considered using electric locos for the route Berlin - Halle (Saale) - Munich, with a top speed of 180 km/h and a speed of 60 km/h on the steep gradients of the Frankenwaldbahn (Franconian Forest). They ordered two locos each from AEG and from Siemens/Henschel. The two locomotives built by AEG, the prototype of the model 7319, received the class numbers E 19 01 and E 19 02, whilst the two from Siemens/Henschel were numbered E 19 11 and E 19 12. All four locomotives were later taken over by the Deutsche Bundesbahn German Federal Railways). The top speed was reduced to 140 km/h. The "noble stags" as the electric locos of the class E 19 became known to railway lovers, were stationed at the end of their careers in the Nuremberg loco depot. The E 19´s were used on services from Nuremberg to Probstzella in the DDR [German Democratic Republic] through the Franconian forest as well as between Nuremberg and Regensburg.
